The city of Monza is about to live a new event of great history. On the 25th of March, on the occasion of his visit to Milan, Pope Francis will celebrate the holy mass in the Monza Royal Park. This news - somehow anticipated by the Prefect of the Pontifical Household, Monsignor Georg Gänswein, during his recent visit to the Museum and Treasury of the Cathedral - has been announced by the Archbishop of Milan, Cardinal Angelo Scola.
Monza, the place chosen by Queen Theodelinda, who together with Pope Saint Gregory I the Great started the conversion of the Longobards to Catholicism, thus being the initial cornerstone of the process that would make the Longobard culture a first root of the European culture, will have the honour to host the Pope, just like it had the best attention by other Popes, from Paul VI to Benedict XVI, thanks to the value of its history and faith symbols.
The Mayor of Monza, Mr Roberto Scanagatti, commented the event this way: "The announcement of the Cardinal Scola makes everybody happy and proud. Our city and the whole Brianza's territory will be able to welcome Pope Francis in the best possible way. Pope Francis' word in these hard and somehow tragic times - I'm talking about the crisis that many of our families are still experiencing and the too many wars in the world that oblige entire peoples to migrate - will be a great comfort and support for all those who are daily committed in promoting the values of peace, solidarity and sustainable development".
